Our Journey
Afrifama’s story began in 2022 with a small broiler farm in Mariakani, Kilifi County. Like many farmers in Mombasa, Kilifi, and the wider coastal region, we faced the same harsh reality — poultry feed costs were swallowing up to 75% of our total expenses.
Every production cycle felt like walking a tightrope. Feed prices kept rising, profit margins kept shrinking, and many small-scale farmers were shutting down. We saw firsthand how this struggle wasn’t just about business — it was about livelihoods, education for children, and the stability of entire households.
We also discovered that much of the available feeds were either overpriced or inconsistent in quality, leading to poor flock performance and high mortality rates.
We knew something had to change
Turning Struggles into Solutions
In 2024, we decided to take action and founded Afrifama Feeds. Our goal was simple but ambitious: produce affordable, high-quality poultry feeds that would give farmers a fighting chance at profitability. We partnered with Kenya’s leading feed formulation and animal nutrition experts to create rations specifically tailored to the needs of farmers in the coastal region.
The results were transformative:
Feed costs went down
Bird health and growth improved significantly
Farmers began to see real, sustainable profits
What started as a solution for our own farm quickly grew into a movement to support poultry farmers across Kilifi, Mombasa, and beyond.
